Our kindy room
Welcome to the Kindy room
We are a room for children from approximately 3 years to school age with a focus on providing an environment which fosters a desire to learn.
We nurture each child to their full potential, through engagement in play experiences that support and encourage all areas of growth and development. Children begin to see themselves as competent, capable and independent when provided with continuous opportunities to participate in self-initiated play which acknowledge their strengths.
Exploring the natural environment
We nurture a close relationship with the natural environment and spend time exploring our own Nature Play Yard, the University Gardens and local parks. We also value the local community as we visit the shops and make connections with the people we meet.
High quality programming
The Kindy Room programme involves a cycle of planning and is based on The Early Years Framework, My Time Our Place, the Australian Curriculum, National Standards and the Guidelines for Indicators of Preschool Numeracy and Literacy. Programme goals reflect our Centres philosophy as well as the interests, strengths and needs of the children, families and community.
Jolly Phonics
Our pre-school aged children are also offered a ’Jolly Phonics’ program which is based on developing an understanding of letter sounds and reinforcing this in a fun and interactive way. They are encouraged to participate in a pencil work session with a focus on developing pencil grip and control, in preparation for school the following year.
Developmental portfolios
Children’s interests, investigations and learning are recorded in a ‘Floorbook’ and as displays on the ‘Program Wall’. Each child has a Developmental Portfolio in the format of pieces of work, photo’s, learning stories, observations and reflections. These record the interests, challenges and achievements of each child and their ongoing learning. They are available throughout the year for children and families to look at, and sent home twice a year to be shared.
